About the East Bank Academy

East Bank is continuing its work with A New Direction, operators of the Good Growth Hub - an award-winning charity generating opportunities for children and young people to develop their creativity through the East Bank Academy.

For the Festival, the East Bank Academy will create 16 commissioned roles, 10 of which are live now and a further 6 to be announced across the summer, connecting local young people to paid opportunities and employment within the cultural sector and creative industries. These roles will feature Social Media and Marketing, Photography, Content Creation, Event Production and Sound & Lighting related roles.

The festival is supported by the Mayor of London and Bloomberg Philanthropies.

The Festival from East Bank is an annual cultural programme hosted at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, bringing together East Bank's founding partners - BBC Music Studios, London College of Fashion, UAL, Sadler’s Wells East, V&A East and UCL East.

In 2026, the headline theme is The Music is Black, anchored by V&A's landmark exhibition 'The Music is Black: A British Story'. The festival extends this theme across live music, dance, talks, workshops and community events programmed by East Bank partners and associated collaborators throughout the Park.

About the role 

We are looking for an experienced, thoughtful and creative Freelance Videographer / Documentary Filmmaker with a strong documentary style / case-study storytelling ability to capture the story of the Good Growth Hub x East Bank commissioning programme across The Music is Black Festival series. The ideal candidate will be confident to work in a dynamic festival settings.

You will be responsible for documenting the journey — from training and preparation, to live delivery on site — and producing meaningful digital digital content that evidences impact for funders, partners and stakeholders.

The final output will contribute to a short casestudy style film (with supporting clips for social media) demonstrating how the commissioning model supported young creatives, artists and communities.

What You’ll Be Doing

Story & Case Study Capture

  • Capturing theendtoendstory of the commissioning programme from preparation to delivery.
  • Filming training sessions, briefings and behindthescenes preparation.
  • Documenting the onsite delivery of roles across multiple festival weekends, highlighting key moments and interactions.
  • Capturing how young people are supported, developed and embedded in live cultural production.

Interviews & Testimony

  • Filming short, conversational interviews with:
  • Young commissioned creatives
  • Selected artists
  • Funders and strategic partners
  • Eliciting reflective, impactfocused responses (learning, opportunity, confidence, skills, access)
  • Capturing testimonialstyle footage suitable for reports, presentations and social sharing

Festival & Contextual Footage

  • Working with the event videographers from the Freelance Academy cohort, you will use some of their footage to weave into your narrative
  • You will film live moments that contextualise the work (crowds, performances, collaboration)
  • Recording authentic, inthemoment interactions that support narrative storytelling

Delivery & Collaboration

  • Working closely withthe Freelance Academy cohort,East Bank and Good Growth Hub teams to shape the narrative focus
  • Aligning footage with funder reporting and evaluation needs
  • Supplying organised, clearly labelled rushes and selects
  • Delivering agreed edited assets (or collaborating with an editor, if required)

Deliverables May Include

  • A shortcasestudy film (approx. 3–5 minutes)
  • Interview clips for partner and funder use
  • Cutdown versions for digital and social channels
  • Highquality Broll archive for future reporting
  • Who we’re looking for

    • A freelance videographer with strong documentary or casestudy storytelling skills
    • Confident filming interviews in live, busy and festival environments
    • Able to put contributors at ease and capture authentic, thoughtful responses
    • Strong understanding of filming for funder, stakeholder and institutional audiences
    • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with multiple partners
    • Skilled in capturing highquality sound as well as visuals
    • Sensitive, respectful and culturally aware in communityled spaces
    • Passionate about access, skills development and creative opportunitiesy
    • Experience working on arts, cultural, education or socialimpact projects (highly desirable)

    Skills and experience

    • Experience with brokering working with b-roll
    • Experience working on capturing and editing engaging video content for funder or sponsor case studies, or showreels or projects that highlight impact or opportunity
    • Experience with creating compelling narrative and understanding impact and evaluation needs of funders and stakeholders
    • Digital Design knowledge desirable
    • Access to own kit (audio and video) and editing software
    • Knowledge of editing software

    You will need to be available for all or most of the following training and festival dates, if/where things can we’ll provide notice in advance:

    • 8-9 June Days Paid Orientation and Training Days & Site Orientation
    • 13-14 June – Music is Ours
    • 18 June paid half day reflection and feedback
    • 11-12 July – Power and Respect
    • 16 July paid half day reflection and feedback
    • 22-23 August – Queer Frequencies
    • 12-13 September – Black to the Future
    • 16 September – Celebration Playback

    Additionally we will be looking for the selected cohort to provide coverage of 3 career events delivered by Good Growth Hub likely taking place on:

    • 15 July
    • 19/20 August (date tbc)
    • 16/17 September (date tbc)

    And potentially other events from our partners (dates and timings tbc)

  • Eligibility

    Please note eligibility criteria before applying:

    To be eligible for the programme you must meet the programme's eligibility requirements:

    • Aged 18-30 years old
    • Current resident of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest
    • Lived in the boroughs whilst at school or college. *

    We welcome applicants who have been educated outside of the above boroughs but priority will be given to those that have attended school or college in these boroughs 

    • You must be currently freelancing or committed to pursuing a freelance career
